Solrød Biogas has been sold to Bigadan
Solrød Biogas AS, a biogas plant located in Solrød, Denmark, has been sold to Bigadan AS. The acquisition consolidates full ownership and operational management of Solrød Biogas under Bigadan, supporting further development opportunities.
Founded in 2014, Solrød Biogas was established by the municipality of Solrød with participation from private feedstock suppliers and local industry. The plant began operations in 2015, converting seaweed collected from beaches, agricultural residues and food industry by-products into renewable energy, thereby addressing local environmental challenges such as beach odor and nutrient leaching, while supporting climate objectives. Solrød Biogas is designed to process approximately 200,000 tonnes of biomass feedstock per year. The plant produces around 11 million Nm³ of methane annually, supplying renewable electricity and district heating to the local community. In addition, it generates digestate that can be used as biofertilizer on farmland, contributing to nutrient recycling.
Bigadan is a well-established Danish biogas developer, contractor and operator with decades of experience across farm-scale and large-scale anaerobic digestion plants. The company is backed by Arjun Infrastructure Partners.
