Tages Capital SGR has acquired two RTB biomethane plants from Finpower Project
Tages Capital SGR, through its fund Tages Helios Net Zero, has acquired a portfolio consisting of two ready-to-build (RTB) biomethane plants located in Southern Italy.
This transaction marks a further step toward decarbonizing the national energy system and highlights the growing interest among investors in agricultural biomethane as a strategic driver of the energy transition. It follows last October’s acquisition of an initial portfolio of four operational biogas plants slated for conversion to biomethane, located in the Italian provinces of Pavia and Cremona. The deal further consolidates Tages’ leading position in this sector and aligns with its investment philosophy of enhancing the value of strategic assets, particularly in biomethane, while actively contributing to the development of a rapidly expanding market.
Tages Capital SGR is an independent asset management company specializing in alternative investments. It manages infrastructure funds focused on renewable energy, as well as a private debt fund. Today, Tages Capital SGR is the second-largest photovoltaic operator in Italy, with approximately US$2.9 billion (€2.5 billion) in assets under management (AUM) across its three funds: Tages Helios, Tages Helios II and Tages Helios Net Zero. These funds have a total capacity of 915 MW, including photovoltaic, wind and biomethane assets, and are managed through an innovative owner-manager model and a long-term buy-and-hold strategy.
The portfolio acquired comprises two RTB biomethane plants located in Southern Italy, specifically in the provinces of Foggia in Puglia and Potenza in Basilicata. Commercial operation is expected in the first half of 2026, with biomethane production sourced entirely from agricultural by-products, livestock effluents and agricultural production waste. The produced biomethane will be injected into the gas grid via the SNAM delivery point. Additionally, the plants are already eligible under the incentive scheme established by the 2022 government ministerial decree.
Finpower Project S.r.l. has over two decades of experience in developing renewable energy projects.
Oaklins’ team in Italy acted as the exclusive financial advisor to Tages Capital SGR. The deal also reflects the team’s ongoing commitment to the energy sector, particularly in the renewables space, where biomethane is emerging as a promising growth area in Italy.
