M&A is the inevitable result of the need to combine all the pieces of the pie in the fragmented gluten-free industry. The once-niche sector is now considered a mainstream category linked to health and wellness and helping to boost interest in the free-from segment, which is rising steeply. The global free-from industry was valued at US$36 billion in 2017 and will continue to grow, making its players a natural target for larger traditional food players, desperately looking for new sources of revenues and profits.
