Private equity reshapes the insights industry

Marketing Data & Insights Spot On

Are we, as the latest issue of Business Week contends, living in “private equity’s world”? Recent deals in the insights business appear to support this assertion. To explore the evolution and impact of this trend, Ken Sonenclar, from our team in New York hosted an enlightening discussion with panelists John Almeida, General Partner at Saroras Private Capital, and Will Bihrle, Vice President of Bain Capital.

John describes the trajectory leading up to the sale of Reimagine, the marketing insights company he founded eight years ago and sold to global online market research firm Dynata in 2019 for a significant multiple. On the investment side, Will explains the thesis and strategy behind Bain’s acquisition of Kantar, a world leader in market research, global market information and business analysis comprised of 15 businesses.

The panel draws on their experience and expertise to respond to audience questions about the direction in which Marketing Data & Insights is heading. Is bigger, faster, cheaper the only way forward in today’s big data world? Or does the expert, human touch still have a role to play? Do clients want do-it-yourself or do-it-together solutions? And what are the upsides and downsides to private equity’s takeover of the industry?

In addition to providing valuable insights into the sector’s future, we chart company multiples and valuations to illustrate the upward trend in the market research industry over the last four years.
