Bernardo is a partner at Axia, Oaklins’ member firm in Colombia. With over 25 years of experience in investment banking and financial institutions in Colombia and the region, he has led and executed M&A, capital raising, corporate finance, and project and structured finance transactions across a wide spectrum of industries. His key areas of expertise are in financial institutions, infrastructure and energy.
Before joining Axia in 2019, Bernardo was CEO of Corporación Financiera Colombiana (Corficolombiana), a financial institution with the largest equity portfolio in the country and an excess value of US$8 billion dollars in assets. Prior to that, he was CEO of Citibank Colombia and its Colombian subsidiaries Citivalores, Cititrust and Colrepfin. As CEO, he was the country head of the corporate and investment banking, consumer banking, global transaction services (GTS) and commercial banking operations. He was responsible for more than US$6 billion of assets in the country. Before being appointed CEO at Citi, he served as managing director of Citigroup’s investment banking division for the Andean region, responsible for the origination and execution of its local and international products, such as debt and equity origination, syndicated loans, mergers and acquisitions, and structured financing. Currently, Bernardo is a member of the board of directors at Banco AV Villas, Surtigas and Leonisa. He has an MBA diploma, with a concentration in finance and accounting, from the University of Notre Dame in the USA, and an economics degree from Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia.
