Saare Kala Tootmine has been acquired by Brivais Vilnis

June 2026 — AS PRFoods, through its subsidiary Saaremere Kala AS, has sold its entire shareholding in Saare Kala Tootmine OÜ to Latvian fish processor AS Brīvais Vilnis. The transaction includes the transfer of related shareholder and inventory loan claims and forms part of PRFoods’ wider restructuring program. This divestment reduces the group’s cost base and enables it to focus on higher-value-added seafood products in its remaining UK operations.

Saare Kala Tootmine is an Estonian fish-processing company operating a modern production facility in Saaremaa. The company processes and packages primarily rainbow trout and salmon, alongside smaller volumes of whitefish, perch, pike-perch, vendace, Baltic herring and herring. Its portfolio includes chilled, lightly salted, marinated, hot- and cold-smoked fish, roe and convenience products such as trout burgers, cutlets and nuggets, marketed under the Saare Kala brand and through private-label arrangements. Positioned between raw fish suppliers and finished food distribution, the company serves grocery retailers, wholesalers, distributors and hotels, restaurants and catering (HoReCa) customers in Estonia and export markets.

Brīvais Vilnis is a Latvian fish-processing and canning company based in Salacgrīva, with more than 70 years of operating history. The company processes Baltic Sea and ocean fish into more than 100 products, including sprats, mackerel, sardines, herring, tuna, pâtés and grilled fish products, supplied in various sauces, oils and packaging formats. It operates across procurement, processing, canning, packaging and international distribution, serving importers, wholesalers, distributors, retailers and restaurants. Brīvais Vilnis exports approximately 80% of its production to more than 40 countries.
