Comtax has been acquired by Ryan
September 2026 — Comtax, a São Paulo-based tax technology consultancy specializing in tax determination and digital tax compliance, had been acquired by Ryan, the world’s largest firm dedicated exclusively to business taxes. The transaction marks Ryan’s entry into the Brazilian market, adding a specialized team and an established base of large corporate clients in Brazil, one of the world’s most complex tax environments, at a time when the country’s consumption tax reform is set to reshape how companies calculate and report indirect taxes. For Comtax, the acquisition brings access to Ryan’s global platform, technology and client network across more than 80 countries, creating opportunities to scale its tax determination and compliance offering beyond its current footprint. Comtax’s founders will continue to lead the business.
Founded in 2018 and headquartered in São Paulo, Comtax is a tax technology consultancy focused on digital tax. The company helps large corporations implement, automate and control tax determination solutions, including the calculation of indirect taxes on individual transactions within ERP systems, with integrations to SAP, Oracle and other enterprise platforms. Its services cover digital tax consulting, including the mapping, diagnosis and implementation of tax technologies; tax determination projects; compliance and tax efficiency reviews through preventive technology audits, validations and controls; and the implementation and support of market-leading tax software from partner vendors such as Sovos and Avalara. Comtax operates between ERP and tax software providers and corporate tax departments, combining technical implementation with tax expertise. The company has approximately 70 professionals and serves more than 100 clients, primarily large corporations operating in Brazil. Its revenue combines large implementation projects, recurring subscriptions with support contracts and consulting projects.
Headquartered in Plano, Texas, Ryan is the world’s largest firm dedicated exclusively to business taxes. Founded in 1991 by G. Brint Ryan, who continues to lead the firm as chairman and CEO, Ryan provides federal, state, local and international tax services covering tax recovery, consulting, advocacy, compliance and technology. The firm has more than 7,100 professionals and serves over 74,000 clients in more than 80 countries, including many Global 5000 companies. Ryan has grown through a steady acquisition program, including the acquisition of Altus Group’s property tax business for approximately US$500 million in 2024. The firm is backed by Onex Partners, Ares Management and Neuberger Berman. Neuberger Berman agreed to make a minority investment in January 2026 at a valuation of approximately US$7 billion.
