Jonathan D. Sherman
Jonathan is an associate partner at Oaklins E. Canada and is based in Toronto. He has 20 years of experience in sourcing and negotiating M&A transactions, structuring debt & equity financing and providing strategic advice to management teams and boards of directors regarding both organic and acquistion-led corporate development and value creation initiatives. He has extensive experience in working with entrepreneurs, family-owned businesses and private equity. His key areas of expertise are in consumer & retail, food & beverage and private equity. He has been involved in M&A transactions in both Canada and the United States, including for E.D. Smith & Sons, a manufacturer and marketer of branded and private label jams, jellies and sauces, and its add-on acquisition of Northcoast Processing, a manufacturer of private label salad dressing; Kenra, a manufacturer and marketer of branded professional haircare products; and Petra Pet (dba Beefeaters), a marketer of branded and private label pet treats, and its add-on acquisition of Nuti-Vet, a marketer of pet nutritional supplements. Jonathan has also advised private equity clients, including Fulcrum Capital Partners, with respect to acquisition opportunities in the beauty & personal care sector, and Ciel Capital, with respect to acquisition opportunities in consumer products marketing and distribution. He has previously consulted to and served on the boards of directors of Kenra and Search Minerals, a rare earth metals mining exploration company.
Jonathan had several senior roles prior to joining Oaklins E. Canada, including as director of corporate financing with BDC in Toronto. Prior to joining BDC, Jonathan founded his own firm, TrueCore Consumer Partners, where he acted as a consultant and independent private equity sponsor focused on the consumer sector. Jonathan also worked with a Toronto-based mid-market private equity fund for over 10 years, where he led or participated in transactions in food processing, beauty care and pet care, and led the firm’s consumer products practice during the later stages of his tenure. Jonathan has an LLB and MBA from Osgoode Hall Law School and Schulich School of Business at York University and a BBA from Cape Breton University.
