Specialty Merchandise Corp. has been acquired by Shackleton Equity Partners
November 2011 — The private shareholders of Specialty Merchandise Corporation (SMC) have sold the company to Shackleton Equity Partners for an undisclosed consideration.
SMC is a leading direct selling and business opportunity company that operates in the giftware and home décor products industry. SMC provides members a complete solution to launch and operate their own direct selling consumer products business under their own name.
Shackleton Equity Partners is a private equity firm focused on acquiring small- to micro-cap companies primarily in the US as well as in Canada and Mexico. The firm specializes in complex transactions including non-core divestitures as well as 363 asset sales. Shackleton Equity Partners seeks to acquire businesses primarily with enterprise values between US$5–75 million across a variety of industry sectors including media, manufacturing, software, semiconductors, technology and telecommunications.
Our role in the transaction
Oakins' team in Los Angeles advised the seller in this transaction. The current majority shareholder and former CEO was no longer active in the business and desired an operational exit while maintaining the continuity and legacy of the family business.
